Word associations may deliver to you a pat or a punch. Dear Enchanted Journeyers, We’re continuing on our quest to corral and tame those Dragons of Stress through Enchanted Key #3-Journaling. Sunday we selected our journal prompts by randomly opening a book and blindly pointing to a word on the page to write about.
FIVE EMOTION-CHARGED WORDS
For today’s midweek Enchanted Breath, I’m going to give you five words and ask you to choose one. Mindfully focus on this task and notice how everything else falls into soft-focus in the background. This helps to reduce your current stress.
So here are your words: risk, expectation, fail, succeed, victory. You likely will have different word associations for each. Pick one to focus on during your Enchanted Breath. Afterward, write a few sentences, or more if you like, about your beliefs and attitude regarding your word associations and any feelings that come up for you.
MEDITATIVE JOURNALING PROMPT
Take a deep and cleansing breath and release. Say the word aloud. Take another slow breath in, and, on the exhale, release tension from your muscles and nerves as you relax and sit with the word. When was the last time this word association was presented to you in a situation? What was the outcome? If it had been favorable, breathe into how glorious it felt. If negative, relax tension in your physical body as you consider what you learned from it. See if the word association affects you differently than it used to. Which of the five words did you find yourself avoiding?
RELEASE YOUR STRESS THROUGH JOURNALING
Jot down your answers and experience. When you journal, your stress leaves the container of your physical body, travels through your hand and the pen or crayon, and ends up on the page, out and away from you.
This Enchanted Breath carries with it a valuable lesson that includes the first three of our Enchanted Keys: Mindfulness, Altered Perceptions, and Journaling. It can be surprising to learn that you can consider something to be stressful and still view it in a calm and relaxed state. Alternatively, you may discover that those feel-good moments can be forgotten and get lost in the sea of “things gone wrong.” Reclaim yourself and feel empowered about the words you invite into your awareness.
