SOMEDAY MAY NOT COME, SO LIVE FOR TODAY
Someday is not promised. Today is what we have. Hello lovely Journeyers, we are about to close out the week on our month-long focus of Enchanted Key #2-Altered Perceptions. Let’s take a look at how you view your life. Do you see it as one long series of chores that will take decades to complete? At that time, if you’re still able, will you take time to travel, explore hobbies, learn a new language or skill? If so, you may want to flip your perception of that.
DO YOUR CHORES BUT PLAN SOME FUN
Now I’m not saying don’t do your chores. Do still brush your teeth, make your bed, and vacuum in the corners even though no one looks there. But, regarding this whole concept of someday, that needs to be moved up to today, tomorrow, this week, or this year.
I hear so many people express regrets over not traveling, trying new restaurants, or having more adventures. I had a heartbreaking conversation with a woman I met. She told me that her husband died unexpectedly. She is in her early 60s and they had planned, for the past 30 years, that in their 60s they would travel. They did the dutiful thing of putting their children through college, putting aside some money for retirement, with the rest to be used for adventures that would happen someday. Now she’s concerned that the savings will be necessary to keep her in her home and able to have meals every day.
THE TIME IS NOW
Using the Enchanted Key to Altered Perceptions, I gently suggested that she honor her husband’s life and their love by living her life fully. I encouraged her to take one of those trips, within the year. She did, and while she grieved his absence terribly, she was glad that she went. It was important for her to discover that she could travel alone in a group of other singles. She also made some lasting friendships.
TAME THE LEMMEJUST DRAGON
I wish she had been able to travel there with her husband, but it was not meant to be. I struggle with the LemmeJust Dragon who whispers to me, “LemmeJust pay off the college loans in full, THEN…” or “LemmeJust tuck this away for the children BEFORE we go on a vacation like that.” There will always be something more practical than having fun.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR
The adventures don’t even have to be big ones that are expensive and far away. Enchanted excursions can happen at your local park or botanical gardens. They can be spontaneous, planned together with a loved one or a group of friends, or you can venture out on your own. I urge you not to wait for the illusive someday, to arrive. I’ve never seen a calendar that has someday on it. Mark this year’s calendar now, with one or more of your someday plans on it.
