Poetry Is An Art Form: Explore It, Read It, and Write It!

Poetry is an art form all in itself. Need I tell you that good poetry is enchanting?

I thought I’d interview a fellow poetess I know. She’s actually Team Enchantment member, Haley Williams. She is a young woman who writes soulful, heartfelt, enchanting words.

The Interview

Inspiration

Enchantress: What inspires you to write poetry?

Haley: My inspiration comes from many different places, but most often, it comes from nature. I am constantly in awe of the beauty within, and power behind, this enchanting Earth that we have the privilege of living on. Inspiration is also found in the experiences I, along with my loved ones, have. It helps so many people, myself included, to read a poem about an experience and say while reading it, “Wow, so it’s not just me.” That kind of connection is just so overwhelmingly important. We must know that we are not alone in this life and poetry is, I believe, a crucial part of making us all feel connected to one another.

Sharing

Enchantress: What prompted you to begin making it public?

Haley: I used to write all the time, but then college and responsibilities got in the way and, for years, I never seemed to have enough time to take a deep breath, much less write poetry. But, in the last year, I’ve been missing that part of me more and more.

So, I decided to create an Instagram page, separate from my own personal page, that would be dedicated solely to my poetry. I figured that, this way, I would force myself to spend time writing on almost a daily basis.

However, I was pretty terrified that, after all these years, my poems wouldn’t really be worthy of being read by anyone. I didn’t think they’d be good enough, and I honestly didn’t think my poems were all that great all those years ago either. So, I didn’t tell anyone about my “secret” page, because I was a little embarrassed.

My thinking was that, if my poems were rejected by strangers, my hurt feelings could easily recover from that, but if they were rejected by the people I loved, well that hurt would be quite a bit more difficult to get over. However, I realized just how ridiculous I was being because my page was found pretty quickly by my friends and family and I have received a never-ending outpouring of love and encouragement.

Hidden Dreams

Enchantress: If you were to dream big, what would you do with your poetry?

Haley:  I would love for my poetry to resonate with people so much so that someday I could write a book of poetry. And then another. And then another. Then I would love to come to a place where I can make writing my sole career. That would be the ultimate dream.

Creative Challenge

Enchantress: I happen to know that you’re a talented visual artist, as well. Do you have any plans to combine the two talents?

Haley: Thank you so much for saying that! I hadn’t really thought about it yet-what a great, creatively challenging idea! That would be so much fun to include poetry and visual arts all-in-one book. I’ll definitely have to explore that!
