Mindfulness: Check Yourself

Happy 2016 dear Enchanted Journeyers,

Welcome to Year 6 of your Weekly Enchanted Blog.

A new year and the focus of a new key are upon us! Enchanted Key #1-Mindfulness will get our full attention in the present moment. Each month we’ll immerse ourselves in one of the ten enchanted keys in order to gain mastery over stress and create life as an enchanted journey.

We aren’t required to be Buddhist monks or Zen Masters to practice mindfulness. One of our Journey Guides, Jon Kabat-Zinn, has focused his research on mind/body interactions for healing, and the clinical use of mindfulness training for people with chronic pain and/or stress-related disorders. He describes mindfulness as, “the conscious, moment-to-moment focus on what one is intentionally doing, thinking and feeling.”

Another Journey Guide, Dr. C. Norman Shealy, Harvard neurosurgeon and founder of the American Holistic Medical Association, states that 85% of all illnesses are a result of lifestyle choices and can therefore, be avoided or altered. Mindfulness from what we eat to how we lift a heavy object can go a long way toward improved health.

Take a full, deep breath right now and release. Track your thoughts. Where have they taken you in the last hour? What feelings accompanied those thoughts, and what have you been doing? Did those thoughts, feelings and actions support you in a positive, healthy way or did they take you off the path of banishing stress and envisioning enchantment?

Observe your thoughts, feelings and actions this coming week. How many of them are fueled by critical, trash-talking Dragons? How many support your forward movement in the direction of your dreams?
